Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival – Lisdoonvarna, Clare

2nd September – 9th October 2016

As you may know, matchmaking is one of Ireland’s oldest traditions and, for the last couple of hundred years, a good deal of it has taken place at the Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival.

Today, the only true Matchmaker left is Willie Daly, who runs a pub in Ennistymon. He has lived in Ballingaddy all of his life, and still lives next door to the 300-year-old cottage where he was born.

During the festivities you’ll find him, and his precious notebook of love-seeking profiles, in his ‘office’ (aka the snug of The Matchmaker bar). Queuing behind his table is a line of hopeful singles, all ages and nationalities, crossing their fingers and entrusting the man in charge to find them a mate.

A friendly atmosphere with lots of traditional, locally sourced ales and lagers.

(Obviously this one’s just for the adults).
